6 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home For Spring

6 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home For Spring

It's that time of year when we are all dreaming of spring! Out here in rural Alberta there are drifts of snow in our driveway and the temperature is hovering around -20 degrees, but I feel that twinge of excitement for a new, warmer season. Hopefully it will be just around the corner!

We are all waiting patiently for the days when we can bust open the windows to let that cool, spring air into our homes - but until then - here are my 6 simple ways you can refresh your home for S P R I N G . . .

1. FRESH BLOOMS

Spring is the season for all the flowers! Placing fresh (or artificial) blooms around your home adds the pops of colour we are craving this time of year. It doesn't have to be complicated (or expensive) to add florals to your display. Pick up a bouquet from your local flower shop or grocery store and have fun placing them in different vessels throughout your home. Thrifted vases, antique glass bottles, ceramic pitchers - just about anything can be used to hold a few blooms. Be sure to trim the stems and change the water out often, so those gorgeous flowers will last for days (even weeks) to come.

 2. POTTED FLOWERS

Like I said before, spring is the season for FLOWERS!!! After months and months of living in a frozen tundra, we need all the flowers we can get. If you want colourful blooms that will last longer than a few weeks, pick up a potted plant or flower. Hopefully you will keep them alive and thriving a lot longer than I typically do!

 3. SPRING ARTWORK

One of the quickest ways you can add a touch of spring to your home is by switching out your artwork. Pop a new print into an existing frame and you're all set! You can also find framed vintage artwork at thrift shops or vintage-inspired prints like the ones we have in our store (see below). Fill your home with flowers, birds, landscapes - anything that brings you joy!

 4. TEACUPS & COFFEE MUGS

I love a good coffee mug. When I drink my morning coffee out of a cute mug, it's one of those little things in life that bring me happiness. I change our coffee mugs out for the seasons - and the collection I have for spring are some of my favourites.
The same goes for teacups. I have a cupboard full of teacups - most of them were from my grandma, a few were my moms and aunties and the rest I have collected over the years. I love admiring the floral patterns on them - they are all so fun and colourful. When spring approaches, I love to place some of the cups around our home. I add them to our mantle, bookshelves and a shelf in our daughter's room. They become wonderful little decor pieces that add a pop of cheer to our spring displays.
You can find so many teacups and teapots at thrift shops, antique stores and garage sales - all at a great price! Start yourself a collection and add them into your spring decor for a fun, whimsical design element!

5. PILLOWS

One of my favourite ways to change up decor is with pillows! It can change the entire look of a space (for not a lot of money). I like to switch to lighter colours and add some whimsical pillows for spring. Floral prints, animals, fruit etc. - any design that sparks a cheerful feeling!

6. SPRING CANDLE SCENTS

One final way to prepare your home for spring is with candles! Find a refreshing scent that reminds you of warmer days. Florally, fruity or any that smell like fresh spring air! They will certainly have you dreaming of the sunshine-filled months ahead!
